IT World in Vietnam today...

Vietnam to begin working on free software

The Vietnamese agent for Asianux, an Asian consortium distributing open source software LINUX, is set to develop the open source software market in the country.
Vietsoftware would work with Asianux experts to develop new modifiable software based on the LINUX operating system, the deputy head of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Posts and Telematics, Hoang Le Minh, said Friday.

It was part of an agreement between the Ministry of Science and Technology and Asianux Consortium, he said.

Vietsoftware would distribute and provide consulting services for Asianux products and LINUX operating system in Vietnam, he added.

The company will also help Asianux set up an Asianux Technology Branch to develop more LINUX-based products, a move Minh believed would put Vietnam’s software industry on the international IT map.

Asianux comprises of three Asian software companies – China's Red Flag Software, South Korea's Haansoft, and Japan's Miracle Linux
